杰西 鲍尔(Jesse Ball)

1978年生于纽约,美国新锐小说家,诗人。2008年,鲍尔凭借《早逝的吕贝克、布伦南、哈普和卡尔》赢得《巴黎评论》的普林顿奖,由此确立了他作为美国新锐小说领军人物的地位,被评论家誉为“当代美国作家中最接近卡尔维诺的那一位”。2017年,鲍尔入选《格兰塔》年度最佳美国青年作家。中文版《为何,以及如何谋划一场火灾》《自杀式疗愈》及《寂寥方才降临》2019年陆续出版。鲍尔现任职于芝加哥艺术学院,教授写作。

Jesse Ball, born on June 7, 1978 in New York, is an American novelist and poet. He has published novels, volumes of poetry, short stories, and drawings. His works are distinguished by the use of a spare style and have been compared to those of Jorge Luis Borges and Italo Calvino. Ball’s reputation as a leading American novelist was first made in 2007 and 2008 with the arrival of the critically acclaimed Samedi the Deafness and then the novella The Early Deaths of Lubeck, Brennan, Harp&Carr. The latter won the Paris Review's Plimpton Prize. He followed up that success in 2009 with The Way Through Doors, and in 2011, The Curfew, for which the Chicago Tribune critic called him, “a young genius who hits all the right notes. ” In 2017, Granta included him on their list of Best Young American Novelists. Ball has lived for ten years in Chicago. He is on the faculty at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
