新疆作家，获第六届鲁迅文学奖。著有诗集《晒晒黄沙梁的太阳》，散文集《一个人的村庄》《在新疆》，长篇小说《虚土》《凿空》等，有多篇文章收入全国中学、大学语文课本。2013年入住新疆木垒，创建菜籽沟艺术家村落及木垒书院，任院长。2018年出版长篇小说《捎话》，许多评论家称赞这是一部奇书，是中国文坛罕见的小说，即便放到世界文坛也毫不逊色，《捎话》完全可以代表中国文学。
